Mac On Campus

So we had mac on campus today, and I can say that I was kind of disappointed. It was just as informative as last year, but it wasn't as interactive. Which is what I was looking forward to. And...I think their prices have been reduced since last year which is good, but still much more than I'm willing to pay. Hmm...maybe I'll strike it rich and marry a very wealthy man.

Fill Flash Article

So I found a fill flash article by Les Voorhis from Profotos. It's talking about how he uses fill flash. Read the article here.

Productive Day

So I got all of my to-do list done today. I'm so excited. I printed large 13x19 prints for Leslie, one of the lower quarter students as a thank you for letting me take pictures of her son, Alonzo. I'm looking forward to tomorrow in Photojournalism, because I'm learning fill flash.

Want Awesome Eyes in Photoshop?

So here's a youtube video on another way to really pop the eyes in portraits. Mr. Jones showed us how to burn and dodge the eyes and use clipping masks, but this one shows you how to just burn and dodge and then make a new pupil. It's definitely time worthy. Enjoy.

To Do List

So my to do list for tomorrow consists of:

  1. Attending school to help with the construction of our holiday portrait set. By the way check it out, here.
  2. Have Mrs.Harkins check out my low-key assignment.
  3. Print my low-key assignment.
  4. Blog some more. :)
  5. Maybe cook a little dinner for the lovey.
Hmm...that's all I can think of for now.

Feature Artist: Jerry Uelsmann

So Jerry Uelsmann is one of my all-time favorite photographers. He does what many of us do today in photoshop with composites, he does completely in the darkroom. He will cut up his negatives to piece them together to create a masterpiece which looks very unreal. Check it out.

Free Webinar This Wednesday For NPPA Members

So I found this article on National Press Photographers Association's Website. And I even added it to an RSS feed like Mr. Jones had talked about in class. So the article talks about a series of 5 webinars that focus on the knowledge and tools visual journalists need today to succeed in the online photography business. So check out the article here. And now I'm seriously thinking about joining.

Canon Intros EOS 1D Mark IV DSLR with HD Shooting, Extreme ISO Capabilities, and Revamped Autofocus System

I just found this article today while looking on pdn's website!!!! yay!!!

Canon 1D Mark IV

Canon introduced a new flagship digital SLR for sports photography this morning, the 10 frames per second, 16MP EOS 1D Mark IV. The 1D Mark IV will sell for $4,999 body only and ship to U.S. dealers in late December.

The new DSLR, which features a revamped autofocus system and HD shooting capabilities, is the replacement for the 10MP 1D Mark III.

Though it's been over two years since the Mark III camera out, little has changed superficially with the new Mark IV model. The two cameras look almost exactly alike though the new 1D Mark IV has three dots below the EOS-1 logo to identify the microphone.

Yes, that monaural microphone is there to support the Mark IV's new High Definition movie mode which is very similar to the video capabilities of the recently announced Canon EOS 7D.

Like the 7D, the 1D Mark IV can shoot 1080p video in frame rates of approximately 30fps, 25fps, and 24fps. It can also record 720p HD video at 60fps and features a stereo mic jack.

Along with sharing the same 10fps still shooting speed of the Mark III, the new Mark IV's sensor is also a non-full-frame APS-H (27.9 x 18.6mm) size with a magnification factor or 1.3x.

Low Key

So we shot low key today. And thanks soooo much to one of lower quarter's son's Alonzo, I had a successful shoot today. And so for my shoot, I wanted very dramatic lighting, mainly to show off his incredible muscles. And bless his heart, he was very comfortable in front of many girls. Here's just one of my pictures. Click on my picture to take you to some more examples.

So I wanna know how the weather decides to be sunny when I have to be cooped up inside and rainy when I am able to go outside and shoot. It's not fair.

Photoshop Teacher!!

I feel like an awesome teacher. Thanks Mr. Jones for teaching me my photoshop skills so I can teach my friend Sophia. I used to work with Sophia at Portrait Innovations and we've both bounced creative ideas back and forth. She's great to work with and wonderful with kids. Hopefully soon we'll be converging with Marcee as well and create our own little business on the side. :)

My New Flickr account...yay!

Face a Face Exhibit

So here's a little about the Face a Face Exhibit, I'm thinking about checking this out if anyone would like to go with me. It's on exhibit from October 1 - November 6. I think it would be a good show to see and might be inspiring to some!

The Opal Gallery and AKA Photo Project, a new initiative to showcase talented amateur photographers, announce the exhibit Face à Face at Opal Gallery. Curated by Etienne Abobi, founder and managing director of AKA Photo Project, Face à Face will unveil thirty-seven images that provide perspectives of places and faces in and around Atlanta through the eyes - and lens - of the French.
AKA Photo Project promotes emerging and amateur photographers, with a twist: The "AKA" implies that these photographers are "accidental artists,” people who are not artists by profession, but who pursue photography as a passion... and happen to be quite good at it.

*Face à Face is supported by The Consulate General of France, Opal Gallery and Artifacts, Inc.

Ok so I have a friend that recently used this company, Nations Photo Lab, to order some prints that she had taken in her studio. She was telling me how the prices were inexpensive and you can create custom packages for customers. I thought I would post this in case anyone was interested in doing their own portrait stuff on the side to make a little extra money. The program they offer is completely free and easy to use. They also offer free shipping on orders of $50 or more, so see what you think!

Sports Photos

Here's the sports photo that I turned in for Mrs. Finch:

It was the only one that was anything close to sharp. It was a lot of fun to shoot and I think I might do more sports photography. I guess that comes from my competitive softball side...

If you want to check out more from the shoot, click here.

Finally...

Ok, so after a little bit of waiting for my child Dylan to arrive, I got some really cute shots...
Click on my picture to check out more of my pictures.

I had great help today from Marcee and Claudia. And I helped Jayne with her little boy. He was the cutest ever! And for Aiden to only be 15 months, he rocked!

Waiting...

So I'm trying to shoot for my children portraits today and my child isn't here yet. I'm anticipating the shoot and I hope it goes well.

Inexpensive Light Kits

So Marcee got a new light kit from showcase, so I decided to go online and take a look at what they have. And for $499, she got two strobe lights, two softboxes, a carrying bag, two sync cords, and two umbrellas.

So we're going to go play with the new light kit!!! Yay.
